Long overdue
Hi.
To those who have already seen these photos on facebook I do apologize
but photographs look so much nicer on blogs
so I'll always be cross-posting !
finally we had some sun so we decided to head over to Cockatoo Island for some
touristy pass times
we laughed ourselves funny at the chinese artist names
this is an exploding art piece by Cai Guo Qiang "I want to Believe"
(臭腳強?)haha .
http://www.caiguoqiang.com/
but jokes aside, contemporary Artists from China are packed with the
jaw dropping element
(like the Olympics ceremonies)
above Cai Guo Qiang For BeiJing olympics '08
(how did he get it to spiral so nicely!)
CGQ's art chronology dates back to the year I was born
with cool projects involving suspending large vessels in mid air
field explosions
and also one that I like very much called the Dragon : Explosion on Issey Miyake
for the Cartier Foundation
the Biennale also had Cao Fei, but not Ai wei wei.
shame
on the island it felt like time stood still
heritage elements were preserved in a thick coat of silence
A lot of themes tried to artificially bring nature into
human habitats
There was one Korean artist who had a plant phobia so she used green old school sieves to
make gigantic grape vines
so how bout that
this installation was totally threatening to collapse
Death
waxed figurines of the great leaders (dictators) of the world
some were attached to a vacuum suction thing
which made the figures seem to breath and flutter their eyelids
Roger Ballen
we saw him at Galerie Kamel Mennour

The Yayoi show was so disappointing
thought there was gonna be sculptural stuff but
turns out it's a weird clip of her humming a lullaby
